Erin Johnston is a Licensed Professional Counselor - Supervisor and a Registered Play Therapist - Supervisor™ that brings experience from the private, non-profit and school settings, working with children, teens and adults. Erin utilizes a variety of therapeutic modalities including talk therapy, play therapy, activity therapy, sand tray and EMDR.
Erin has experience working with issues such as depression, anxiety, domestic violence, ADHD, life transitions, stress and grief. Erin practices a person-centered approach, as she aims to facilitate a nonjudgmental, empathetic environment that leads to growth, healing and self-actualization.
Erin specializes in play therapy, as she strongly believes in the power of play. Children often struggle when trying to process their own emotions let alone verbalize how they are feeling to others. Following a child-centered play therapy approach, Erin provides a safe, nonjudgmental environment where children can express themselves freely while developing skills that will allow them to manage their own behavior and be successful in life.
Prior to working in private practice, Erin worked as an elementary special education counselor for one year, a school counselor for seven years and as a special education teacher for five years. During her years in education, she worked closely with students, parents, teachers, administrators and other vital team members to ensure the well-being and success of each student. As the campus 504 coordinator, member of the SST team and ARD committee, Erin understands the educational protocols related to student growth and learning, the importance of working on a multidisciplinary team and how mental health impacts academic performance.
Erin also love to work with adults, facilitating each individual to understand their full potential. Providing a warm, supportive environment, as she walks each client through processing their feelings and emotions and identifying safe, appropriate boundaries, coping strategies, etc. that can be utilized in life.
Erin looks forward to connecting with you!
